Roding Automobile builds drivable prototype of the City ONE from ACM
A new electric city car is being launched – the City ONE from ACM. A modular e-vehicle for which Roding Automobile has developed and built a ready-to-drive prototype. And this is exactly what is to be presented at the International Motor Show Germany (IAA) 2021 in Munich next week. In addition, the prototype forms the basis for series development at Magna. ACM is considering entering series production starting in 2023.
Small, manoeuvrable, multifunctional. The City ONE is designed as a modular electric fleet vehicle for urban areas with a maximum range of 360 km. With a turning circle of 9.9 metres, it can be used flexibly in the smallest of spaces. For passenger transport as an e-taxi or car-sharing runabout with space for five passengers. The City ONE also scores points in the cargo version. In just a few steps, the vehicle can be converted from a 5-seater into a 2-seater minivan with 1,450 litres of storage space. A Euro pallet with a maximum weight of 380 kg can be loaded via the tailgate. Ideal conditions for courier or other delivery services. And all this with a vehicle length of only 3.6 metres.
24-hour operation instead of a break for charging
The vehicle is supplied with energy via a 24-kWh fixed battery and four additional exchangeable batteries. This combination enables 24-hour operation for taxis and city centre logistics.
The handy exchangeable batteries are located under the cargo bed and are easily accessible from the boot. Each battery weighs 10.5 kg and stores 2.5 kWh. For even more range, there is room for additional battery packs on the roof of the City ONE. The small lightweight electric runabout also makes an impression when it comes to consumption. Due to its attractive size and low weight, it requires less than 10 kWh/100 km.
Just under a year of construction time for the prototype vehicle
With the realisation of the City ONE prototype, Roding Automobile has once again demonstrated its strength and performance. Less than a year has passed since submission of the vehicle design data until the development and construction of a fully road-ready prototype.
"We are very pleased that ACM is now starting series development of the City ONE and that our prototype forms the basis for this," says Ferdinand Heindlmeier, Managing Director of Roding Automobile. "We wish ACM every success for the upcoming vehicle presentation at the IAA 2021 and for further marketing," Heindlmeier continued.
